❝    you don’t have to think that way here,    ❞          he reminded her,       an he would keep reminding her of it if it ever helped.       he wanted to be a positive influence in her life,      the kind that she clearly NEEDED.       and he knew it wouldn’t just be him,      but his whole pack that could do that for her       (     it was the kind of people they were,      the kind of person he knew she could be too.    )         brows furrowed,      head shaking.        ❝     it’s no one’s responsibility to protect me,   ❞        he argued.      while the pack ha saved his life when freeing him of his host responsibilities to the beast,      he didn’t want to make it a habit of the pack having to save him.       and to hear that they thought they had to was slightly discouraging;     he had to be MORE than just a human.     he was forever grateful that this was what he was again,    but he had to believe he could do more.       ❝    it’s all of our responsibility TOGETHER.     i know we’re losing a bunch of people this year,     but   —-    that doesn’t mean they’re really gone forever.     scott’s still our alpha,     whether or not he’s HERE.       he’s trained us well enough to be able to take this on our own.   ❞         and he had to believe in liam too.

i  know.    ❜     she tells him in almost a small voice   ——-      ,     eyes widening innocently and nodding in affirmation at his statement.    to let mason know she was aware of the kind of people that they all were.    kind people.    by some struck of luck spencer was included in this tight abundance of those whose main goal was to SAVE LIVES.    a group that she would certainly die twice for.           it’s not you guys     ——-      ,    not at all.   it’s just   ,    i’m more of a stranger to people doing good deeds out of the GOODNESS in their hearts than i am to those who do the opposite.   i learned the first one from you guys.     ❜       it was said as a confession    ,   until scott and the pack she’d only known SELFISHNESS.   there was a certain familiarity about mason’s  comment   ——    ,   whether it was once said by herself or by someone else another lifetime ago.   or constantly by their other friends who thought the same way.    but some similarities did lie between the two of them.          mason.   those people    ——-     ,    ❜      another short pause   ,   pupils staring as if searching him for all the answers.    usuallly    ,    it’s a look people give spencer.    or scott.          do you really think we can go through all this without them?   are any of us prepared for anything that’s about to happen?     ❜
